Join us at Edgeworthstown Library for the opening of The Extraordinary Life of Abbé Edgeworth, a fascinating new exhibition celebrating the life of a Longford-born priest whose journey connected Ireland, France and Latvia. Officially opened by His Excellency Juris Štālmeistars, Ambassador of Latvia, the exhibition explores the extraordinary life of Abbé Henry Essex Edgeworth (1745–1807) – confessor to King Louis XVI during the French Revolution and a key witness to one of Europe’s most dramatic periods of history.
The exhibition features rare archives, artefacts and historical treasures from leading collections across Ireland, many of which have never been publicly displayed before. From Edgeworthstown to Paris and ultimately Latvia, this is a story of faith, loyalty, exile and international connections that deserves to be known. The exhibition runs until 14 August during normal library opening hours.
As the room may occasionally be in use for other activities, visitors are encouraged to phone the library before visiting to ensure the exhibition is available to view.
