North Longford Cycle Routes
The North Longford Cycle Routes are beautiful cycling trails through historic North Longford, consisting of four different routes (N1, N2, N3 and N4). There is a map and information board in each village along the routes.
N1 is a 52 kilometre cycling loop commencing at Longford Town via Cullyfad, Ballinalee, Ballinamuck, Drumlish, Newtownforbes and back to Longford Town. This is the longest route in North Longford and takes in some of Longford’s Rebel Trail with some interesting points of interest for viewing. The route crosses over Corn Hill which offers spectacular views over the county. It features a steep incline for about 5 kilometres. Rating: Difficult.
Route N1 ↓
N2 is a 39 kilometre cycling loop commencing at Ballinalee up to Aughnacliffe and back down to Ballinalee. All routes and elevations represent a clockwise direction. Routes can be cycled in either direction. This route starts in Ballinalee where you will see the General Sean MacEoin Monument. An opportunity for some Pitch & Putt before cycling on to experience the views of Lough Gowna and a relaxing picnic in Leebeen Park, Aughnacliffe. An incline for approximately 8 kilometres. Rating: Difficult
Route N2 ↓
N3 consists of 42 kilometres of cycling trail commencing in Granard through Abbeylara, Granard, Lough Gowna and back to Granard. Starting in Granard, it takes in the history of Michael Collins, Kitty Kiernan and how the Normans lived by visiting the Knights & Conquests Heritage Centre. A playground, trail & picnic area at Derrycassin Woods. Take in the beautiful scenery of Lough Gowna & relax in Leebeen park where there is a playground, picnic area, trail & fairy garden. Rating: Moderate
Route N3 ↓
N4 consists of 29 kilometres of cycling trail commencing in Aughnacliffe and passes through Moyne, Legga, Ballinamuck before finishing at Aughnacliffe. It is the shortest route in North Longford taking in some of Longford’s Rebel Trail. The route starts in Aughnacliffe where you can visit the portal tombs, a mini waterfall or Leebeen Park. Take in the history of the 1798 Battle of Ballinamuck or take a stroll in the Edenmore Bog Walk. A steep incline for approx. 5km. Rating: Difficult
