Longford Garden Centre is a family run business, it was established in 1987 by Laura Shaw who is a qualified horticulturist with over 40 years experience in the garden industry. Plants and Gardening have always played a major role in Laura’s life and indeed gardening has been a family tradition as her great great granduncle was Head Gardener in the Mosstown Estate, Kenagh, Longford before emigrating to Canada in the mid 1850s, while her uncle Robert Shaw grew prize winning Sweet Pea at the RDS Horse Show.
At Longford Garden Centre you will find peace and tranquillity as you walk among the many trees and shrubs which have been grown on site in our nursery, the smell of roses in the summer months and the cottage garden plants evoke memories of chocolate box cottage gardens. You will find bees, butterflies and ladybirds in abundance as it has been our policy to run the Garden centre in conjunction with nature since the day it first opened, you won’t find weed killers or slug killer on our shelves but we will advise on alternatives that will make your gardening effective and safe for both you and the environment.
Hanging baskets window boxes and container planting is our speciality and with this in mind we grow all our bedding plants in our glasshouse on site, we offer varieties of plants that thrive in Longford and offer a free basket / container filling service, the customer only pays for the plants we use.
Advice and learning are hallmarks of Longford Garden Centre, we offer training to various groups and work experience placement to horticultural students as they strive to find experience in this growing sector. Plant Clinics and plant identification are another important feature of the business and answers to questions and gardening advice is given freely on a daily basis.
