About this Route

The Royal Canal Way is a 90 mile long publicly owned right of way which crosses through counties Dublin, Kildare, Meath and Westmeath before entering County Longford. It is a unique walkway that allows the visitor to meander at their own pace through some of Irelands most beautiful landscape.

This off-road trackway is an excellent way to enjoy some of Longford’s unspoilt landscape.

The walker/cyclist can start in either Longford or Killashee. Parking is available at both points. It is an out and back route – so walkers/cyclists can turn back at any stage.

The trail crosses the N4 at two points relatively close to Longford. This is a busy road. Care should be taken.
