Glen Lough Bird Sanctuary
Glen Lough Bird Sanctuary is situated near Edgeworthstown, Glen Lough is significant for the internationally-important numbers of whooper swans who flock to the area in winter.
A number of other bird species are found here including buzzard, wigeon, gadwall, raven, mallard, water rail and teal. Greenland white fronts and hen harriers have also been reported here in winter.
The site has a fine bird-hide affording excellent views over the lake. Other rare and interesting native plant and animal species inhabit the area, including newts.
A number of walks and ponds make this an ideal spot for walking and exploration.
The site is open to the public.
